RoxyAnn Peak

The weather in southern Oregon in January is generally pretty fantastic for hiking. The temperature gets just nicely to the point where the locals are donning sweaters, and the imported Canadians find it ideal for a t-shirt and walking pants.

After last year's NYE mission to Upper Table Rock, it was decided to take on another climb to commemorate the start of a new year. Roxy Ann Peak was suggested and looked like a winner on paper, so we headed out to investigate.

It was everything we were hoping for.

Damn it, Jeff.

And then, at the top...

There was also this crazy fellow...

After offering his seat, and receiving a rather emphatic "uhhh... NO thanks!" he held the pose for me to take his photo. I never got his name - Jeff, maybe? ;)

Starting back down the other side of the slope.

Thanks for the confidence-boost, random chalk graffitti!

And finally watching the sun set over another great day, walking us into another great year of memories.

Whitehorse Park

With a few hours in the afternoon to kill, and the sun trying desperately to break through the overcast sky of a southern Oregon January, I packed up my camera and a co-pilot and we drove off to find a view of the Rogue River from somewhere I hadn't seen it yet. As it turns out, we ended up at Whitehorse Park, which I had seen before, but from the river side as an end-point to a legendary rafting mission a couple of years back. The park was new to me otherwise, so I counted it as a win.

We were short on time, but I was excited about the different views even in just the small area we explored, and the sun co-operated just long enough to scratch my itchy shutter finger, and make this girl one happy shutterbug.

Magic

1

magic

noun  mag·ic  \ ˈma-jik \
a an extraordinary power or influence seemingly from a supernatural source
b something that seems to cast a spell enchantment
I stumbled across this beauty somewhere just outside of the city of Rogue River. Everyone was at work, so I had taken my camera for a drive to see what we could see. I passed him at first, but he caught my eye again in the rearview mirror, and I realized he was exactly what I hadn't known I was looking for. He was beautiful, and I watched him from my side of an old wooden fence for quite a while, wondering how I was going to be able to capture the enchantment of this moment on a two-dimensional level.

Magic.

Once Upon Another Time: Chapter II

The story of Zak and Amanda is one for the ages.
Three weeks shy of two years after our first shoot, we were back in Grants Pass, this time at Tom Pierce Park, and with the stunning Zoey in tow.

The weather was not perfect; it was a bit chilly and the sky was dull. But Amanda was determined, and I have yet to be disappointed by a single one of her plans. As it turns out, this one was no exception.

Shooting Zoey is like having my own personal little Liv Tyler modelling for me. Beautiful, creative, and intelligent, this girl is going to run the world someday.

And her dad knows it!

Live and in colour...

...or nostalgic black & white.

The Rogue River is a showcase of ideal backdrops

and with this bunch, there is never a shortage of fantastic photographic moments.

Then we're on our way out, and Amanda says, "Can we get some pics at those train tracks?" and of course, because her plans are awesome...

some of my very favourites of the day.

I truly enjoy spending time with these people. Taking their photos is more of a treat for me than for them... doing what I love with people I adore, and making memories to last into happily ever after.
