Halifax Mooseheads: Memorial Cup Champions

It's not just a stereotype: hockey is a big deal in Canada. So, in 2013 when the Halifax Mooseheads won the CHL championship Memorial Cup for the first time in franchise history, the team was welcomed home with a celebration, an outdoor signing party, and a day named in their honour.

The weather was perfect and the crowds filled Grand Parade and overflowed onto the streets. They were young and old, sporting painted faces, Mooseheads jerseys, and all kinds of paraphernalia.

The man of the hour was Nathan MacKinnon, named most valuable player of the tournament and subsequently drafted to play for the Colorado Avalanche NHL franshise in the 2013-2014 season.

After the show, the fans literally lined up for blocks for the chance to say hello to the hometown heroes.

and to have photos taken with the trophies of course.

The sun was hot, the line-ups were long, and these guys sat and signed until I'm sure their hands were cramped. Yet, no matter how exhausted, our star player was willing to put on his true game face for the little boy on his dad's shoulders calling his name, and the woman standing beside them holding a camera.
