The Ryder Cup 2014

The 2014 Ryder Cup saw a few changes from other years. The original hosts Ron and Willena had moved and no longer had a yard big enough to support the growing number of teams vying for the coveted trophy. Cue Margie and Wayne, who graciously offered up their freshly seeded lawn and adorable home for the occasion.

This year also saw the loss of one of our stars: Pat of the Sexy Seniors had passed away suddenly about three months before. This year's tournament was dedicated to his memory, and his team shirt was retired in ceremony at the opening speech.

Once the tears were dried and the rules read, it didn't take long for the shenanigans to begin.
No, Dan, your shirt doesn't get retired just because your team took on a new name.

Everything's in order...

Let the games begin!

Things got heated up pretty quick and the competition was fierce!

But there was enough downtime, too, that everyone got to enjoy the company and stock up on food and fun.

I made a new friend! (more on that here) and somehow managed to find myself in front of my own camera more than once!

Some more play within play...

and then came the final round. All for this:

The second place team:

and our champs, making Ryder Cup history as the first two-time winners ever!
Jamie and Bobby as Nerd Rage!

Next year's Cup is set to be played in Sydney, NS, taking it provincial and making it possible for even more teams to take part. As long as it stays classy, we'll.... uh...well... um...

Nevermind. :)

Zoey

Aside from the usual distractions at the Ryder Cup, this year I was delighted to make friends with the adorable and charming Zoey. We latched onto each other - me with my camera and her with her need for someone to hold her can of Orange Crush - and a beautiful friendship was born. She called me "My Friend" and I kind of felt like this little missy was the type of kid I almost wouldn't mind having for my own.

Almost.
This hat screamed HOLLYWOOD to me.

The drama to go with the Hollywood hat.

Up close: the innocence of childhood personified.

Lovin's with Uncle David.

And a lesson in the mechanics of using a swing.

I hope this will not be the last you see of Zoey. Photographer and client, I think this was just the beginning of a long and beautiful friendship. :)

Out of the Blue

There was a lot going on on the Halifax waterfront that day. There usually is during the summer. Massive cruise ships come and go, street entertainers peddle their musical, artistic, and unusual talents, locals motor along in their business suits and sneakers, trying to put in some exercise on their lunch hours.
But looking out over the water toward Dartmouth, you'd never know it. All that bears witness is the calm and peacefulness of a massive bank of fog, and a single perfect sailboat making its way through.

Time Well Wasted

So, what did you do this weekend?

Oh, ya know, not much. ;)
