Autumn in southern Ontario

I spent a good chunk of the month of October this year in southern Ontario, visiting with these beautiful people:

The leaves this year were absolutely glorious and lasted the whole month long in that part of the world. I was in photographic heaven.

Also good autumn fun for me: highly photogenic dogs!

Meet Mojo...

...and Hanna....

...and my roommate for the entire trip, this lovable puppy peabrain: Gigi!

Getting some honey-sweet love from one of her people...

...and the dogs weren't the only ones getting honey.

Wait a minute... I know someone who raises BEES????

Yup.
Lots of 'em.

Even after all that, there was so much more to be captured in this country life. I didn't even have to go looking for it. This was next door:

...as was this:

Along the St. Lawrence River in Cornwall...

...and a bit of a road trip...

... including a "STOP THE CAR" moment on the way home.

If you decide to take the car for a drive along random roads just to see what there is to see, this might happen.

If you're really lucky, you might notice a sign directing you to a place called St. Raphael's Ruins, and you might think about how cool that sounds, so you might decide to go investigate.

And you just might be right.

Behind the ruins was a whole other kind of stunning.
This place is amazing!

Corn!
Incredibly photogenic corn!

I had been looking forward to chilling out and recharging my batteries while in Ontario. Indeed, I was treated to an amazing Thanksgiving family dinner and a bonfire, learned some card games, and met some great people. I got to spend time in new places with old friends.

And that is the best recharge a girl could ask for.

Side Trip: NY State

My trips these days don't seem to be trips without mini-trips in their midst. While I was visiting Ontario, we decided to drive the 20 minutes to the Canada/America border and go hiking for a day in New York State. We found a trail where we could take the dog, and piled into the car for the drive south to Elephant Head Trail in the Aiderondack Mountains.

The colours on the trees were still very much in their seasonal glory in the northeast U.S. By the time we arrived at the trail, though, we were being treated to an unexpected display of the season; it was snowing!

On top of the vibrant orange and gold and green of the leaves, the clean white snow was absolutely magical. I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like it. You can imagine my disappointment when my camera batteries died just as we arrived at the top of the trail, but on my way, I did manage to capture a few gems that I think represent the cusp of winter as it made its way into our October.

The top of the trail overlooked Titus Lake and the entire surrounding region. It was a glorious view.
But the hike itself with it's snowy leafy goodness, and of course, the company I was with, were definitely the highlights of the entire day!
