The gateway to the Okanagan Valley in southern British Columbia is the city of Kelowna. Settled on the shores of the Okanagan Lake, Kelowna boasts a water-centred downtown area, complete with a marina, sandy beach, walking trails and lakeside park. My days in the city were overcast, but I still managed to soak up a day on the lake with my camera:
Then this happened.
Maybe 10 feet from where I was standing, camera in hand.
Maybe 10 feet from where I was standing, camera in hand.
Right behind me? Bustling but not overcrowded downtown.
I decided to spend day two doing some hiking. I looked up a trail near where I was staying and made my way there with the help of Google maps.
The trail was nice, but it was a trail. Despite the hike Google had promised, I soon got bored of the easy walk and veered to the left to make my own trail. As per my life, I found myself promptly, but rather serendipitously lost...
...in farm country:
and coming out on a hill overlooking the city ... at a WINERY!
Now that I could get my bearings and see the direction in which I needed to go, I made the conscious decision to go the opposite way and see a bit more of the city and surrounding area. Kelowna is one of those places that truly emits the aura of a big city yet maintains the comfort of country living, and I'd recommend that anyone take the time to get lost there.
