My trips these days don't seem to be trips without mini-trips in their midst. While I was visiting Ontario, we decided to drive the 20 minutes to the Canada/America border and go hiking for a day in New York State. We found a trail where we could take the dog, and piled into the car for the drive south to Elephant Head Trail in the Aiderondack Mountains.
The colours on the trees were still very much in their seasonal glory in the northeast U.S. By the time we arrived at the trail, though, we were being treated to an unexpected display of the season; it was snowing!
On top of the vibrant orange and gold and green of the leaves, the clean white snow was absolutely magical. I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like it. You can imagine my disappointment when my camera batteries died just as we arrived at the top of the trail, but on my way, I did manage to capture a few gems that I think represent the cusp of winter as it made its way into our October.

The top of the trail overlooked Titus Lake and the entire surrounding region. It was a glorious view.
But the hike itself with it's snowy leafy goodness, and of course, the company I was with, were definitely the highlights of the entire day!
